Common Materials for Cable Tie
Nylon
Nylon produces a high-strength zip tie with good thermal and abrasion resistance. It also resists fuels and most chemicals. Nylon 6/6, the grade most often used for cable ties, meets UL94 V-2 flammability ratings and can operate in temperatures as low as -40°F. Typically, a nylon zip-tie melting point is 185°F.
Polypropylene (PE)
If you're looking for chemical resistant cable ties, consider polypropylene (PE). It resists acids, polyhydric alcohols, neutral salts and basic salts, making it a better choice in this instance than nylon. It does have a lower tensile strength than nylon 6/6, but it's also more flexible. Polypropylene can also stand up to UV exposure.
Low density polyethylene (LDPE)
Low density polyethylene (LDPE) has a high-ductile nature and less-than-average tensile strength. As a material for cable ties, it's not commonly used. However, it stretches and conforms well to surfaces and has excellent chemical resistance to dilute and concentrated acids, alcohols, bases and esters, so it has its uses. For these reasons, it's often used for ties that are meant to bundle cables temporarily.
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel cable ties provide high tensile strength. They can also stand extremely high temperatures, from –328°F to 1000°F. There are two types of stainless steel used in cable ties: 304 and 316. Type 304 is used for general purposes, with both indoor and outdoor applications. When corrosion is a threat, it's Type 316 you need.
Types of Cable Tie

Colored ties: Permanently secure cords, cables, bags, etc. They are tamper-proof, designed to lock tight, will not stretch or slide, and are used to color-code items. These also come in jumbo sizes, natural color.
Releasable cable ties: Use for items that are frequently modified. Simply press the tab to release, and the tie is ready to be reused.
Metal detectable cable ties: Nylon ties blend with metal, providing magnetic properties throughout—guards against contamination in pharmaceutical and food industries, is weather-resistant, and more cost-effective than stainless steel ties.
Identification cable ties: The same as standard ties but have a rectangular piece that can be written on to identify the items secured by the tie.
Stainless steel cable ties: Designed to use outside in even the harshest conditions to secure wires, cables, and pipes. Self-locking head for guaranteed security.
Natural security loops: Helps secure merchandise together or secure tags onto your products. Fast, economical, and permanent attachments. Easily snaps together by hand, no gun required, and they are tamper-proof.
Beaded security ties: Similar to security loops. Quickly tag parts without a gun–simply thread through tie to desired size.
Black UV cable ties: Nylon ties that permanently secure cords, cables, bags, etc., for continuous or extended exposure to outdoors and UV light. UV stabilized and tamper-proof.

Principles of Cable Tie
The cable tie works through a straightforward yet effective process: When the pointed tip of the tape section is inserted through the head and pulled, it engages with the pawl to form a ratchet mechanism. This design ensures that once the tie is tightened, it cannot be pulled back without significant force – the loop can only be made tighter. Releasable cable ties include a convenient release tab that can be depressed to disengage the ratchet, allowing the tie to be loosened or removed for potential reuse.
Stainless steel cable ties, have a roller ball construction. This involves a ball bearing which tightens and secures as it is tensioned, creating a non-releasable locking mechanism. We also supply coated stainless steel cable ties which are available as epoxy-resin coated ties and nylon coated ties, and which are recommended for any situation where a metal cable tie may come into contact with galvanised steel, causing a reaction.
